Dad was like "who's playing"
I was pealing the orange again for him... carefully making sure all the membrane was gone...
he said "I thought you were full..."
... so here it started... I only ate one tamale. Yes I was full because the tamale were large, like huge even... so I ate one... "... I thought you said you were full "
dad looks at my hands peeling the orange...
"yeah it's like dessert dad, we always have dessert after dinner no matter how full we are, it's just tradition"... he glared ...eyes shifting from my hands peeling the orange to my eyes...
my eyes also shifting from hands peeling to his eyes (trying hard not to laugh)...
sniffle like we're dueling even... then I was like ... " eat it, it's good for you "
... you know despite being full you're gonna eat that orange because I pointed out it's dessert .... he glared... and so I did it again
"curmudgeon dad...you, for no reason... "
... he stuffed the orange into his mouth and I could tell he was astounded that I dared again.... but he ate it and I was quite happy with that. It's good for him. He didn't even quiz me about football... but we did both smirk and it was good not to full on laugh this time... felt like some deep familiar secret about orange peels and skins. 8.12 'tie'
